HVAC CAD & Revit Designer

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented HVAC CAD & Revit Designer to join our Design & BIM team. This individual will be responsible for creating and maintaining accurate HVAC and mechanical piping drawings and 3D models to support E.M. Duggan’s medium to large-scale construction projects.

The HVAC CAD & Revit Designer will work closely with project managers, engineers, fabrication shops, and field teams to ensure systems are coordinated, constructible, and compliant with applicable codes and standards.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of HVAC and hydronic systems, experience with fabrication-driven design, and advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Navisworks, and related BIM and collaboration tools. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to complex, high-profile projects while growing within a leading mechanical contractor.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design & Drafting:

  • Develop, modify, and maintain detailed HVAC and mechanical piping drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD and Revit MEP.

  • Prepare layouts for HVAC systems including hot and chilled water, steam and condensate, fuel oil, heat pumps, fan coils, chillers, cooling towers, and associated piping systems.

  • Produce coordinated construction documents including installation drawings, sections, details, penetration drawings, and as-built documentation.

  • Generate prefabrication spool sheets and detailed fabrication drawings in coordination with shop personnel.

2. Collaboration & Coordination:

  • Interpret and understand project specifications, drawings, submittals, and the engineer’s design intent.

  • Coordinate HVAC systems with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and other trades to achieve fully coordinated models.

  • Perform clash detection using Navisworks and participate in BIM coordination meetings to resolve conflicts.

  • Liaise with general contractors, design teams, project managers, colleagues, and other construction personnel throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Review and incorporate field input, redlines, and coordination comments to maintain accurate and current drawings.

3. Quality & Compliance:

  • Ensure designs comply with local codes, industry standards, and project-specific requirements.

  • Apply a practical understanding of fabrication methods and pipe assembly to support constructible design solutions.

  • Organize and distribute drawings, sketches, and layout information to support efficient job site installation.

  • Generate hanger layout points and deck penetration points for use with Trimble layout systems.

  • Provide technical support to field and shop teams to address design-related questions during fabrication and installation.

  • Support value-engineering and constructability reviews by identifying efficient routing and system alternatives.

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design, or related field (preferred).

  • Minimum 3–5+ years of experience in HVAC/mechanical drafting and design, preferably in commercial or industrial construction.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Autodesk Fabrication CADmep, and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Navisworks, BIMrx, Procore, and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) is a plus.

  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems, applicable local codes, industry standards, and construction best practices.

  • Experience with fabrication-driven design and a practical understanding of piping installation and assembly methods.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and organizational abilities.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a collaborative mindset.
