Fire Alarm Sales Representative

Position Overview

E.M. Duggan, Inc. is seeking a driven and knowledgeable Fire Alarm Sales Representative to grow our fire alarm business across two key verticals: product specification with engineering firms and inspection, testing & maintenance (ITM) service contracts with building end users. This individual will serve as the primary business development resource for the fire alarm division, building relationships with consulting engineers, property managers, building engineers, and facility directors throughout the Greater Boston area and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

Engineer & Specification Sales

  • Build and maintain relationships with consulting engineers, MEP firms, and design professionals to ensure E.M. Duggan fire alarm products and systems are specified on new construction and renovation projects.

  • Conduct product presentations and lunch-and-learns with engineering firms to educate them on fire alarm system capabilities, code compliance, and competitive advantages.

  • Monitor project pipelines through engineering firms and architect networks to identify upcoming projects where fire alarm systems will be specified.

  • Provide technical support and resources to engineers during the design phase, including system layouts, riser diagrams, product data sheets, and code references (NFPA 72, Massachusetts State Building Code).

End User / Service Contract Sales

  • Develop and grow a portfolio of fire alarm inspection, testing & maintenance (ITM) contracts with property managers, building engineers, facility directors, HOAs, and building owners.

  • Prospect and cold-call commercial building owners and property management companies to present the value of annual and semi-annual fire alarm testing programs in compliance with NFPA 72 and local AHJ requirements.

  • Conduct building surveys and site assessments to evaluate existing fire alarm systems and develop tailored service proposals.

  • Educate end users on code-required testing frequencies, system life-cycle management, and the benefits of preventive maintenance agreements (PMAs).

  • Negotiate and close service agreements, ensuring profitability while delivering competitive pricing.

  • Coordinate with the operations team to ensure seamless handoff of sold contracts for scheduling and execution.

  • Maintain ongoing client relationships to drive renewals, upsells (system upgrades, device additions, monitoring), and referrals.

General Sales & Business Development

  • Meet or exceed assigned sales quotas and revenue targets for both specification and service contract sales.

  • Maintain an active sales pipeline using CRM software, tracking all leads, proposals, and contract status.

  • Prepare and deliver professional proposals, quotes, and presentations to prospective clients.

  • Attend industry events, trade shows (NFPA, AFAA, NECA), networking functions, and association meetings to expand the company's visibility and generate leads.

  • Stay current on fire alarm codes, technologies, industry trends, and competitor activity.

  • Provide regular sales reports and forecasts to management.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with estimating, project management, and service teams to ensure customer satisfaction and project success.

Required

  • 3–5 years of experience in fire alarm sales, fire protection sales, or related life safety/building systems sales.

  • Strong understanding of NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code), NFPA 101, and Massachusetts fire alarm regulations.

  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, fire alarm plans, and specifications.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage a territory effectively.

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation; willingness to travel throughout the Greater Boston area and surrounding regions.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Qualifications

  • NICET certification in Fire Alarm Systems (Level I or higher).

  • Existing relationships with consulting engineers, property management firms, or general contractors in the Greater Boston market.

  • Experience with major fire alarm manufacturers (Notifier, Simplex, Edwards, EST, Honeywell, etc.).

  • Knowledge of fire alarm monitoring services and central station operations.

  • Massachusetts Electrical License (Journeyman or Master) is a plus.

  • Experience selling preventive maintenance agreements (PMAs) or service contracts.

  • Familiarity with Sage or similar construction/service management software.

Salary

$110,000 - $140,000

Working Conditions

  • Setting: Office-based work

  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday, standard 8-hour shift, with flexibility to accommodate project needs.
